Aurelien Chatagnier St. Joseph Blanc, Rhône, Franc 2016 - $32 / $5 shipping

The Northern Rhône Valley of France is an ancient wine region, with records of viticulture dating back the Greeks. Although famous for a robust, savory style of Syrah, the area also produces world-class whites from grape varieties such as Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier. In just the last five years, a young winemaker has gained worldwide attention for his carefully crafted whites and reds. Aurelien Chatagnier worked under some of the most heralded names of the Rhône prior to founding his own tiny domaine. This bottling is a blend of sixty percent Marsanne and 40% Roussanne, the two traditional white grapes of the St. Joseph area. The Marsanne provides notes of ripe citrus, white peach, and roasted nuts. The Roussanne is responsible for adding acidity and a bright green apple tone. The wine is richly textured without being heavy. This is an excellent pairing with roast chicken or pork loin with caramelized apples.
